Dorward and Dale are a fiddle and octave mandolin duo comprising Doug Dorward and Andrew Dale. The pair bring their distinct roots and backgrounds to a fresh exploration of Scottish and Newfoundland traditional music.
A native of Coleys Point, Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Dale is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer and arranger based in St. Johns. He is one third of the award-winning band The Once and has collaborated with a wide array of artists, including Passenger, Amelia Curran, Matt Anderson, Kim Stockwood and Alan Doyle amongst many others. Andrew is a member of Jockey Special (led by Maria Cherwick) as well as The Hot Club of Conception Bay (led by Duane Andrews) and is an alumni of Newfoundland trad band, The Dardanelles.
Doug Dorward is a Scottish fiddle player who now calls Newfoundland home. He grew up immersed in Scottish music with regular visits to Alasdair Frasers fiddle camps on the Isle of Skye and in California. His 2016 debut album Waves, recorded with a stellar lineup of Newfoundland and Labrador traditional musicians, was nominated for Traditional Instrumental Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards and for three MusicNL awards.
Dorward and Dale are delighted to bring their blend of Scottish and Newfoundland traditional music to English Harbour this August!
